The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2011 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Tammy Blanchard
Nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
“I was trying to sleep the morning away, and when the phone rang at 8:30, I just clasped my hands and started praying. And now I’m crying and screaming! The sun is shining and the birds are chirping and I just can’t believe it. I really didn’t expect this. All the women on Broadway right now are pretty much in featured categories and I figured it would be easy to get overlooked. For something like this to happen is like a miracle, it really is. The Tonys are almost like going to church for me. It’s just a magical experience to be in such great company with Patti LuPone and Laura [Benanti] and Victoria [Clark]. I’m going to be sitting next to these women, and I’m so, so thankful. Right now, I’m going to take my three-year-old daughter to breakfast and let her have pancakes with a lot of syrup and butter. I’m going to have a glorious, thankful day and appreciate this blessing and be grateful to everyone I work with. I honor Daniel [Radcliffe] and John [Larroquette] and Rose [Hemingway] and everyone I work with.”
